La rica burguesía urbana del Renacimiento Italia le gustaba refugiarse del calor de verano o epidemias en sus villas rurales. Como Boccaccio cuenta en el Decameron, aquí se relajarían, con historias instructivas y divertidas, música, danza y conversación ingeniosa - en otras palabras, rindieron homenaje a las musas.
