Im Jahr 1939 führte Philips den elektrischen Rasierer ein: der Philishave Typ SC 7733. Dieses Design des Ingenieurs Alexandre Horowitz hieß „die Zigarre“. Die Vorrichtung besteht aus einem Bakelite-stabförmigen Halter mit einem 5 Watt-eigenen Elektromotor, an dem der Rasierkopf montiert ist. Dieser sehr dünne Rasierkopf, der nur 0,09 Millimeter misst, ist aus gehärtetem Stahl gefertigt und hat Schlitze zur Führung des Gesichtshaares. Im Inneren des Rasierkopfes dreht sich ein elektrisch angetriebenes dreiarmiges Rasiermesser, um das Gesichtshaar zu schneiden.
