In seinen vielen Flussblicken hat Van Ruysdael den Arten von Booten und den Gebäuden, die sie vorbei segeln, aufmerksam gemacht. Hier scheinen aber seine Hauptsorgen optisch: Silhouetten, Reflexionen und einen Panoramablick über das Wasser, das wie polierter Zinn glänzt.
