Dies ist eine von zwei Versionen von Manet von Delacroix's berühmtem Gemälde von 1822 (Musée du Louvre, Paris). Das andere, eine literarische Kopie (Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lyons), stammt aus dem Jahr 1855, als das Original auf der Exposition Universelle zu sehen war. Die gegenwärtig frei ausgeführte Farbstudie wird gedacht, um 1859 gemalt worden zu sein, das Jahr des ersten Salons von Manet.
