Bartholomeo Olives, also known as Bartolomeo Olives, was a Spanish cartographer born in Majorca, Spain around 1490. He was a member of the Olives dynasty, which began with his father, a painter, and his uncle Jaume Olives. Bartolomeo Olives was trained in cartography by Salvat de Pilestrina, a cartographer from Majorca. Olives is known for his portolan charts, which are highly decorated and beautifully drawn. His first extant chart is dated 1511 and was drawn in Majorca. He continued to produce charts throughout his life, with his last known chart dated 1563. Olives is considered a pioneer in the implementation of new technologies to improve patients' experiences in neurosurgery. He is also a neurosurgeon with extensive experience in spine surgery and neurosurgery. He is a co-director of several centers at the Teknon Medical Center in Barcelona, Spain, including the Epilepsy Surgery Center, the Neuro Spine Center for Minimally Invasive and Motion Preservation Surgeries of the Spine, the Pituitary Adenoma Center for the Endonasal Resection of Pituitary Adenomas and other skull base tumors, and the Brain Tumors Center. He has published more than 150 articles in national and international journals and has performed more than 350 presentations in national and international congresses. He has also taught neurosurgery at the University of Barcelona and has been a senior consultant in neurosurgery at Hospital Sant Pau in Barcelona. He has been the chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Hospital Mútua de Terrassa in Barcelona and at the Hospital Parc Tauli in Sabadell.
