Biography:
Fujiwara no Norinaga, also known as Ninkan, was a noble who lived during the late Heian period in Japan. He was born in Kyoto, Japan in 1101 and died in 1114. He was a monk of the Daigo-ji lineage of Shingon Buddhism and became a disciple of his elder brother Shōkaku. He later became a protector monk or gojisō of Prince Sukehito, the third son of Emperor Go-Sanjō. He was exiled to the province of Izu in 1113 after being implicated in a plot to assassinate the then reigning emperor of Japan, Emperor Toba. He is considered to be the founder of the Tachikawa-ryū branch of Shingon Buddhism.
