Biography:
Judy Watson is an Australian Waanyi multi-media artist who works in print-making, painting, video and installation. Her work often examines Indigenous Australian histories, and she has received a number of high-profile commissions for public spaces. Watson was born in Mundubbera, Queensland in 1959 and was educated at the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education in Toowoomba, where she received a Diploma of Creative Arts in 1979; at the University of Tasmania where she received a bachelor's degree (1980-82); and at Monash University, where she completed a graduate diploma in 1986. Watson's art often explores themes related to her Aboriginal heritage and the land. She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her work, including the Moët & Chandon Fellowship in 1995 and the 2015 Australia Council Visual Arts Award. Watson's art can be found in the collections of major museums and galleries around the world, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and the Tate Gallery in London.
