Mikhail Kalashnikov was a renowned Russian weapons designer, engineer, war hero, and general. He was born on November 10, 1919, in the village of Kurya, Altai Territory, Russia. He was one of 18 children, of whom only six survived. Kalashnikov is best known for developing the AK-47, the most commonly used assault rifle in the world. He passed away on December 23, 2013.
