Biography:
Parmen Petrovich Zabello was a Russian sculptor born on August 9, 1830, in Monastyrishche, Nezhinsky Uyezd, Chernigov Province. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts and received a small silver medal for his success in modeling. In 1854, he traveled to Italy at his own expense and spent eight years there, primarily working in Rome and Florence. During this time, he sculpted several notable works, including 'Naïade' for the fountain commissioned by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, 'Rebecca au puits,' 'Tatiana,' and 'Malheur.' He also created portraits busts and bas-reliefs, such as those of four members of the Kochubey family. In 1869, he was elevated to the rank of academician by the Academy for his work. After returning from abroad in 1872, Zabello settled in Saint Petersburg and taught drawing and modeling at the Gurevich School.
