Tseng Kwong Chi, also known as Joseph Tseng, was a Hong Kong-born American photographer who was active in the East Village art scene in the 1980s. He is the brother of dancer/choreographer Muna Tseng. Tseng is best known for his photographic series 'Expeditionary Self-Portrait Series a.k.a. East Meets West' where he poses as a Chinese tourist in front of iconic landmarks around the world. He studied photography at L'Académie Julian in Paris and became a fixture of New York’s downtown art scene in 1978. Tseng passed away in 1990 due to AIDS-related complications.
