Wang Dongling is one of China’s most highly regarded ink artists. Trained in classical calligraphy, he studied at the progressive Zhejiang Academy and became increasingly interested in abstract expressionism. He is best known for large abstract works that he calls 'calligraphic paintings.' Combining poetry and painting, Dongling's works are a fusion of traditional Chinese calligraphy and contemporary art. He is widely recognized as one of the most celebrated living calligraphers from China.
