Sir William Goscombe John was a Welsh sculptor born in Cardiff in 1860. He was known for his many public memorials and gained national attention with statues of eminent Victorians in London and Cardiff. He developed a distinctive style of his own while respecting classical traditions and forms of sculpture. He studied in Cardiff, London and Paris, and won several awards for his works. He died in 1952.
