Atelier Van Lieshout (AVL) is a Rotterdam-based studio and production company founded in 1995 by artist Joep van Lieshout. AVL is a self-sustaining organization that creates sculptures, installations, furniture, and architecture. The studio's work is often characterized by its raw, industrial aesthetic and its exploration of themes such as power, politics, and the human body. AVL's projects often involve the creation of autonomous, self-sufficient communities, and the studio has developed its own currency, the AVL-Bond. AVL's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands.
