Chester Arnold is an American Postwar & Contemporary painter born in 1952. He lives in Sonoma, California, and has been represented by Catharine Clark Gallery since 2003. Arnold's paintings are part of a visual dialogue running the length and breadth of human history, exploring the natural world and the human condition. He received his B.A. from the College of Marin and his M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute. Arnold's works have been exhibited in numerous key galleries and museums, including Fresno Art Museum, Catharine Clark Gallery, and the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany in India. He has written approximately 121 publications on subjects including the fossil conifers of Princeton, British Columbia, to the extinct water-fern, Azolla primaeva. Arnold has been honored with the Silver Medal from the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany and the Distinguished Service Award from the Paleobotanical Section of the Botanical Society of America. A number of fossil plants have been named in Arnold's honor including Koelruteria arnoldi and Pseudolarix arnoldi.
