Joana Vasconcelos is a French-Portuguese sculptor and multimedia artist known for her large-scale installations that demonstrate a feminist perspective. Born in Paris in 1971, she grew up in Portugal after her family returned from exile following the Carnation Revolution in 1974. Vasconcelos studied at Ar.Co School of Visual Arts Communication in Lisbon and has since gained international recognition for her work. In 2005, she was invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale where her sculpture La Fiancée made a significant impact. She continues to create thought-provoking art that challenges societal norms and expectations.
