Kotaro Takamura was a Japanese poet and sculptor, born in Tokyo, Japan in 1883. He was the eldest son of Japanese sculptor Takamura Kōun. Takamura studied sculpture and oil painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, and later studied in New York, London, and Paris. He was influenced by Western sculpture, especially the work of Auguste Rodin, and was a leader in the Shirakabaha society, which aimed to separate Japanese art from traditional styles. Takamura is known for his sculptural work and his poems, particularly his 1941 collection 'Chiekoshō' (English title 'Chieko's sky') about his wife Chieko Takamura, a Japanese oil painter and early member of the Japanese feminist movement. Takamura died in 1956.
