Manuel John Neri Jr., known as Manuel Neri, was an American sculptor recognized for his life-size figurative sculptures in plaster, bronze, and marble. He was born in Sutter Creek, United States, on April 12, 1930, and passed away on October 18, 2021. Neri conveyed emotional inner states through body language and gesture in his work with the figure. He worked primarily with the same model, Mary Julia Klimenko, for over four decades, creating drawings and sculptures that merge contemporary concerns with Modernist sculptural forms. His studio was in Benicia, California, and he also worked in a studio in Carrara, Italy, which he purchased in 1981.
