Marilyn Levine (née Hayes), ceramic artist, was born on December 22, 1935 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She grew up in Calgary and obtained a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Alberta in 1959. In 1961, she moved to Berkeley, California where she studied sculpture with Peter Voulkos. Levine was known for her trompe-l'œil art, creating ceramic works that looked like leather handbags, garments, and briefcases. She passed away on April 2, 2005 in Oakland, California.
