Krishna Reddy was an Indian master printmaker, sculptor and teacher. He is considered a master intaglio printer and known for viscosity printing. Born on 15 July 1925 in Nandanoor, Chittoor district, India, he studied at Visva-Bharati University's Kala Bhavana (Institute of Fine Arts) with Nandalal Bose from 1941 to 1946 and graduated with a degree in fine arts. From 1947 to 1949, he was head of the art section at Kalakshetra Foundation and taught art at the Montessori Teachers' Training Centre in Madras. He took interest in sculpture and painting during this time. In 1949, Reddy moved to London and continued his studies with Henry Moore at the University of London's Slade School of Fine Arts. Later he went to Paris where he met artist Constantin Brâncuși who introduced him to cafe discussions on art and helped him meet many famous artists during studio visits. He studied sculpture under Ossip Zadkine in Paris. Reddy was known for his colorful, intricate abstractions that both revolutionized printmaking and influenced generations of artists. Krishna Reddy passed away on 22 August 2018 at the age of 93.
