Nikolai Lieberich was a Russian sculptor of the 19th century, known for his smaller scale models cast in bronze. He started sculpturing from late academism to naturalism and created numerous hunting, military and domestic compositions. His works were often used as models by other artists and manufacturers. Lieberich was born on December 28, 1828, in St. Petersburg, Russia. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts and became one of the most popular Russian sculptors of his time. Lieberich's works were exhibited widely throughout Europe and America. Lieberich was known for his realistic depictions of animals and frontier figures with horses. His best-known work is probably "Russian Wolf Hunt", which he completed in 1884. The sculpture features a group of hunters on horseback, pursuing wolves through the snowy landscape.
