Walid Abu Shakra was a Palestinian artist born in Umm El Fahem, Palestine, in 1946. He left school at the age of 16 to support his family, working several jobs in Jaffa and Hadera. He was a scion of a well-known family of artists and collectors. Abu Shakra was a pioneer of Palestinian art in Israel and lived in London from 1972 until his death in 2019. His work often explored themes of memory, nostalgia, and the landscape of his childhood home in Umm Fahm. He was also known for his work as a printmaker and his use of diverse media to express his connection to identity and land.
