Diese kürzlich wiederentdeckte Selbstporträtin von Adriaen Hanneman bemalt nicht auf der üblichen Leinwand, sondern auf dem Panel ist das letzte datierte Werk dieses Haager Porträtisten. 1669, als er dieses Selbstporträt malte, heiratete der 65jährige Hanneman zum dritten Mal. Dieses Ereignis kann den direkten Impuls für die Schaffung dieses virtuosen Werkes gegeben haben.
