Im Jahre 1524 veröffentlichte Antonio de Pigafetta, ein italienischer Edelmann und Schriftsteller, der Magellan und Elcano auf ihrer Reise begleitete, The First Voyage Around the World (Premier Voyage Autour du Monde). Dies lieferte die primäre Informationsquelle über die Reise, die zur ersten Umgehung der Welt führte. In seiner Zeitschrift enthielt Pigafetta farbige Skizzen der Pazifik-Inseln und Südamerika. In diesem Beispiel zog Pigafetta die Insel Tidore links von der Inschrift Malluco. Hier wurde Gómez de Espinosa, Kapitän der Trinidad, von der Victoria verlassen. Er blieb, um das Leck zu reparieren, das verhindert hatte, dass die Reise fort.
