Nachdem private Unternehmen sowohl die erste Eisenbahnstrecke zwischen Nürnberg und Fürth, die 1835 gebaut wurde, als auch die Verbindung zwischen München und Augsburg, die vier Jahre später eröffnete, initiierte der Staat 1841 die Royal Rail Construction Commission inNuremberg. Seine Mission war es, eine Bahnlinie von Lindau nach Hof über Augsburg und Nürnberg zu organisieren. Im Gegensatz zu den Wünschen von Nürnberg
