Die Designs und Texturen dieser Objekte zeigen deutliche Besonderheiten des Art Deco-Stils. Jean Dunand (1877–1942) war ein Handwerker, der Lackiertechniken von einem japanischen Lackwerker erlernte und auf westliche Designs angewandt hat. Er verdiente seinen Platz in der Geschichte als einer der größten Art Deco-Künstler durch neuartige Ideen wie Lackiermetalle und Stoffe. Der Art Deco-Stil versuchte, Kunst und Industrie zu integrieren, und ihre scharfe Anbetung für die Moderne spiegelte sich in ihren Arbeiten wider. Wie diese Artikel zeigen, verzichteten die Künstler von Art Deco nicht ganz auf die Schaffung von Einzelartikeln von Hand.
