Larkin Goldsmith Mead, Jr. was an American sculptor who worked in a neoclassical style. He was born in Chesterfield, New Hampshire, the son of a prominent lawyer. He became a pupil of sculptor Henry Kirke Brown from 1853 to 1855. He worked as an illustrator for Harper's Weekly during the early part of his career. Mead's most notable works include the Recording Angel, marble, 1855, a replica of which adorns his grave in Florence, Italy; Agriculture (or Ceres), gilded wood, atop Vermont Statehouse; and the Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, Illinois. Mead died in Florence, Italy in 1910.
