Raul Lino was a Portuguese architect, designer, architectural theorist, and writer. He is best known for his theory of the Casa Portuguesa (Portuguese house), an idealized concept of Portuguese residential architecture, planning, and lifestyle. Lino's architectural theses and studies revolved around this concept, which he believed should be a reflection of Portugal's rich cultural heritage. Throughout his career, Lino designed over 700 buildings, including homes, churches, and public buildings. He was particularly influential in the development of the Summer architecture movement in Cascais and Sintra, where he designed many iconic buildings that have become synonymous with Portuguese architecture. Lino's work is characterized by its use of traditional Portuguese materials and techniques, combined with modernist principles and a deep respect for the country's cultural heritage.
