Nicolas Sotiau, also known as Renacle-Nicolas Sotiau, was a French clockmaker born in Liège, Belgium in 1749 and died in Paris in 1791. He was a master clockmaker who opened a workshop in the rue Saint-Honoré and became one of the most famous and talented representatives of Parisian luxury horology during the decade preceding the French Revolution. He supplied timepieces to Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette, and the daughters of Louis XV, among others. He was known for his precise and decorative pendulum clocks, which were highly sought after by the French elite.
