Syndey Byrd was an American photographer born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1944. She moved to New Orleans as a young woman and became one of the city's most esteemed photographers. She was known for her work documenting the distinct cultural practices of New Orleans and south Louisiana, including Mardi Gras and jazz festivals. Byrd passed away in 2015 at the age of 71.
