Apollonio di Giovanni di Tommaso was born in Florence in 1414 and died in 1465. He is also known as the 'Master of the Jarves Cassone'. He was a painter and ran a workshop in Florence that specialized in producing wedding chests known as cassoni and other such furniture. He worked in partnership with the woodworker Marco del Buono Giamberti, whose son became Apollonio's pupil and heir.
