Biography:

Abílio de Mattos e Silva (1908-1985) was a Portuguese artist whose work spanned more than five decades and included various arts such as painting, set design, costume design, illustration, graphic design, tapestry, and poetry. He is best known for his work as a set designer and costume designer, particularly in the context of Portuguese theater. Mattos e Silva's biography was published in the ninth volume of the "Biografias do Teatro Português" collection, which provides an extensive overview of his career and production. The book includes a list of his 142 known creations for theater, dance, and opera, as well as an intensive study of his main scenographic pieces and costumes.
