Biography:

Madame Anselma, also known as Alejandrina Aurora Gessler de La Croix, was a Spanish painter born in Cádiz in 1831 and died in Paris in 1907. She was the first female artist to be admitted to the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid and the Academy of Fine Arts in San Luis, both in Spain. She was also the first woman to exhibit her works at the Paris Salon. She specialized in painting portraits and religious scenes, and her works are characterized by their attention to detail and their emotional intensity. Her most famous work is 'The Adoration of the Cross', painted in 1872.
