Sasha Sokolov is a Russian writer of literature. He was born on November 6, 1943, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Sokolov became known worldwide in the 1970s after his first novel, A School for Fools, was published in translation by Ardis Publishers in the US. He is one of the most important authors of 20th-century Russian literature, acclaimed for his unorthodox use of language and his play with rhythms, sounds, and word-associations. Sokolov is a Canadian citizen and has lived the larger part of his life in the United States and Canada. He is married to the US rower Marlene Royle.
