Ali Mukawwas is a contemporary Syrian painter born in 1955 in Latakia, Syria. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus in 1978 and has since established himself as a leading artist in the Arab world. Mukawas' paintings often resemble etchings, with a limited palette and emphasis on line work. His style is characterized by subtle employment of contrasting colors. He has represented Syria in numerous exhibitions organized by the Ministry of Culture and has participated in high-profile art fairs such as the Sharjah and Cairo Biennials. Mukawas' work often portrays people gathering around a tree, focusing on the collective nature of humanity.
