Biography:
The Antimenes Painter was an Attic vase painter of the black-figure style, active between circa 530 and 510 BC. The real name of the Antimenes Painter is not known; his current name is an archaeological convention, derived from the Kalos inscription on a hydria in the archaeological museum of Leyden. Of the approximately 150 vases attributed to him, most are amphorae and hydriae. His work is characterized by a preference for large figures, and he is known for his mastery of anatomy and movement. The Antimenes Painter was one of the most important artists of the black-figure style, and his work had a significant influence on later red-figure vase painting.
