Biography:
Antonio Caringi was a Brazilian sculptor, considered the greatest statuary of Rio Grande do Sul's art history. He began his international career in 1928 and improved his technique as a sculptor, mainly at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany. He returned to Brazil in 1934 and won the competition for the equestrian statue of General Bento Gonçalves. He traveled to various countries to perfect his technique and returned to Brazil in 1940 due to World War II. Some of his notable works include The Lassoer, a symbol of Porto Alegre, Monumento ao Expedicionário in Parque Farroupilha, and the equestrian statue of Bento Gonçalves.
