Arend Jan van Driesten was a Dutch artist born in Leiden in 1878 and died in Oegstgeest in 1969. He is considered the nestor of the Leidse School, also known as the Leids Impressionism. He moved in artistic circles that were considered conservative. He is known for his landscapes and still lifes, painted in a realistic style with a strong emphasis on light and atmosphere.
