Biography:
Arnold Hartig was an Austrian medallist and sculptor. He was born on August 12, 1878, in Brand bei Tannwald, Czech Republic. Hartig studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna and later became a student of Rudolf Zitte. He worked as an engraver for the Austrian Mint and created numerous medals and coins, including the Winter Olympic coin in 1964. Hartig was also known for his portraits of famous composers such as Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert. He was a member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus and had his work exhibited at the Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung in Munich. Hartig's autobiography, 'Aus meinem Leben. Vom Bauernjungen zum Künstler. Erlebnisse mit Porträtie...', was published in 1964.
