Arthur Elgort is an American fashion photographer best known for his work with Vogue magazine. He was born on June 8, 1940, in New York City. Elgort studied painting at Hunter College but later discovered a talent for photography and made his debut in British Vogue in 1971. His relaxed and easy snapshot style was a breath of fresh air in the world of fashion photography. He encouraged his subjects to move freely in the frame, using natural light and taking them outside into the real world where clothes would be worn and put to the test. Elgort's work has been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions, including the Centre international de la photographie and the Victoria & Albert Museum. He is considered one of the most influential photographers in the fashion industry.
