Biography:
Benjamin Hall Blyth was a Scottish civil engineer. He was born on July 14, 1819, and died on August 21, 1866. Blyth was trained as a railway engineer under an apprenticeship with Grainger & Miller, a railway contractor. In 1848 he established an engineering practice in Edinburgh where it would remain for the next 100 years. He married Mary Dudgeon Wright in Leith, Edinburgh, on August 1, 1848. Blyth died from diabetes aggravated by overwork at home in North Berwick.
