Carl Joseph Meyer was a German entrepreneur, industrialist, publisher, and editor. He was born on May 9, 1796, in Gotha, Germany, and died on June 27, 1856, in Hildburghausen, Germany. Meyer is best known for founding the Bibliographisches Institut in 1826, which later became the Bibliographisches Institut & F. A. Brockhaus AG. He was also the publisher and editor of several successful encyclopedias, including Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Meyer was a significant figure in the development of the German publishing industry and made significant contributions to the fields of education and knowledge dissemination.
