Carl Zuckmayer was a German author and playwright. He was born on December 27, 1896, in Nackenheim, Germany, and died on January 18, 1977, in Visp, Switzerland. He is best known for his plays 'Schinderhannes' (1927), 'Der Hauptmann von Köpenick' (The Captain of Köpenick, 1931), and 'Des Teufels General' (The Devil's General, 1946).
