Biography:

Charles Bittinger was an American artist born in Washington, D.C. on June 27, 1879. He studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Bittinger explored the use of scientific techniques for artistic purposes and played a prominent role in the development of naval camouflage during World War I. He is known for his military illustrations and oil on canvas paintings, including 'The Boston Athenaeum' in 1922. Bittinger died in December 1970.
