Chris Jordan is an American artist, photographer and film producer born in Seattle, Washington in 1963. He is best known for his large-scale works depicting the magnitude of America's waste and consumption, as well as his series on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. His work often uses everyday commonalities to define the blind unawareness involved in American consumerism and encourages viewers to draw their own conclusions about the consequences of these habits. Jordan's most famous series include 'Intolerable Beauty: Portraits of American Mass Consumption', 'In Katrina’s Wake: Portraits of Loss from an Unnatural Disaster', and 'Running The Numbers I: An American Self Portrait'. He has also expanded his work to include global mass culture in series such as 'Running the Numbers II'. His Midway project, which depicts the impact of plastic waste on Laysan albatrosses, is an ongoing arts and media project with its own website.
