Biography:
Corrie McCallum was an American artist born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1914. She attended the University of South Carolina and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. McCallum is known for her abstraction, figure, and landscape painting, as well as her teaching. She was the first Curator of Education at the Gibbes Art Gallery in the 1960s and established the first comprehensive art appreciation program for Charleston County public schools. McCallum was married to fellow artist William Melton Halsey and passed away in 2009.
