Biography:

Dadang Christanto is an Indonesian artist born in Tegal, Indonesia in 1957. He studied painting in Yogyakarta and was an active member of the arts community. Christanto's diverse body of work encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance. He has won critical acclaim for his ability to portray and evoke reflections on universal human suffering and communal grief. Christanto has been featured in major art events worldwide, including the Venice Biennale, the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane, and the Bienal de Sao Paulo. His works are held by the National Gallery of Australia and other major collections in Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, and Europe. The National Portrait Gallery of Australia recently honored him with an exhibition for his role in the development of art in Australia.
