Biography:
Donald Moffett is an American painter born in San Antonio, Texas in 1955. He studied art and biology at Trinity University, earning a BA. Moffett is known for his non-traditional techniques in painting, such as prying open the canvas to paint the backside, perforating or suturing the painting's surface, or loading it with paint forced into extreme textures. He is also recognized for his social critique in his work, addressing topics such as politics, history, and love. Moffett is a founding member of the AIDS activist collective Gran Fury and is represented by Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York and Anthony Meier Fine Arts in San Francisco.
