Biography:
Edmund Evans was a wood-engraver and printer, born in London in 1826. He is best known for his work in printing and publishing color picture books for children. He worked with many prominent authors and illustrators of the time, including Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott, and Kate Greenaway. Evans developed a new technique for printing in color, which involved printing each color separately and then overlaying them to create a full-color image. This technique, known as chromoxylography, allowed him to produce high-quality, affordable picture books that were popular among both children and adults. Evans died in 1905, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful and influential picture books.
