Edward Jacobs was born in 1961 in Boston, United States. He is an American saxophonist, composer and music educator. Jacobs began playing violin at age eight, but abandoned that at age 11 in favor of the saxophone. He subsequently studied music composition at the University of Michigan. Jacobs is a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient (2018) and has received several grants and awards for his work. His music is known for mastering the 'virtual' and 'real' sound habitats and embedding them into a unified and consistent single space with grace, broad orchestral imagination and expressivity. Jacobs's compositions have been performed by various ensembles and orchestras, and he has collaborated with several artists and musicians throughout his career.
