Biography:
Edward Martin Taber was an American landscape artist born in Staten Island, New York in 1863. He was the son of Charles Corey Taber, a well-known cotton merchant, and brother to mathematician Dr. Henry S. Taber and actor Robert Schell Taber. Taber attended Princeton University and began his professional career in 1886 as Silvius in As You Like It with the theatrical company of Helena Modjeska. He later appeared with Richard Mansfield and joined the company of the actress Julia Marlowe in 1888, becoming the company's leading man. Taber died in 1904, aged 39, from pleurisy at a refuge in the Adirondack Mountains provided for him by Julia Marlowe.
